FG hires lawyers for Ekweremadu

The Federal Government has hired lawyers to defend former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, over an allegation of organ harvesting.

The FG did this through the Nigerian High Commission to the United Kingdom (UK).

Senate President Ahmad Lawan made the revelation after a closed-door session of the Upper Chamber yesterday in Abuja.

Lawan said a delegation of the Senate will visit Ekweremadu and his wife tomorrow in London.

Recall that the former Senate Deputy President and his wife were arrested last week and arraigned at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in London over allegations of organ harvesting.

The court had ruled that the couple be remanded in custody till July 7, which is the next adjournment date.

The visit, according to Lawan, would be undertaken by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa.
