FG earmarksN4.4bn for rent amid sale of 25,000 landed properties

The Federal Government has allocated over N4.4 billion to pay rent in the 2022 Appropriation Bill despite ongoing sale of about 25,000 abandoned or under-utilised government properties across the federation.

The amount is expected to offset rent bills to be paid by about 230 Federal Government establishments including Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the 2022 fiscal year.

Some of the agencies include the Border Communities Development Agency headquarters (N150 million), National Lottery Regulatory Commission (N150 million), Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources (N44 million), Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD, N98 million) and Federal Consumer Protection Commission (N50 million).

Others are the National Social Investment Office (N92 million), Nigeria Press Council (N18 million), National Film and Video Census Board (N20 million), Nigeria Immigration Service (N65 million), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (N35 million) and Police Formations and Commands (N69 million).

Also, the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) will get N105 million to pay rent, Directorate of State Services (DSS, (N33.9 million), Federal Road Safety Commission (N50 million), Nigeria Trade Mission, China (N71,000), Industrial Arbitration Panel (N64 million), National Directorate of Employment (N105 million), NEMSA (N60 million), ICPC (N50 million), EFCC (N60 million), Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs (N122 million), Nigeria Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (N30 million), National Population Commission (N40 million) and National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (N75 million).

Meanwhile, the Federal Government through the Presidential Implementation Committee on Federal Government Landed Property, is presently selling off a chunk of its properties.

The Presidential Implementation Committee on Federal Government Landed Property recently told the House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on abandoned Federal Government property, that it has been mandated by the Federal Executive Council to sell off about 25,000 abandoned or under-utilised government properties across the country.
