Driver Escapes Unhurt as Train Hits Honda Car in Lagos

A 55-year-old driver escaped unhurt after a moving train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway line in Lagos State. The crash involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda vehicle with registration number EKY 902 JT.

The collision left the car badly damaged, but no casualties were recorded at the scene, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed the incident in a statement, saying agency operatives and security personnel rescued the driver and cleared the wreckage from the railway track.

The prompt response enabled the train to continue its journey after the obstruction was removed. However, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD axis, disrupting vehicular movement along the corridor.

Taofiq said the damaged vehicle was handed over to security personnel for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their swift response and coordination during the emergency. He also emphasised the importance of cooperation among agencies in managing transportation incidents.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution around railway crossings and train corridors, warning them against crossing tracks when a train is approaching or in motion. He stressed that compliance with railway safety regulations and traffic rules was essential to preventing avoidable accidents and protecting lives.
