CBN debunks Emefiele’s sacking as rumor

The Central Bank of Nigeria has denied sacking its Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, and described the report as an unfounded rumor.

It wasrrumoredednesday morning that Emefiele had been allegedly sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari for his presidential ambition.

Efforts to get clarification from the CBN’s spokesman, Mr. Osita Nwanisiobi, proved futile.

However, several papers are quoting Nwanisiobi as denying the trending report, saying, “I heard it just the way you got it too. As far as I am concerned, it’s a rumor, I’m not aware of any sack.”

Checkout Magazine had, on May 9, reported the news of Emefiele heading to a Federal High Court in Abuja to seek a constitutional interpretation on his non-resignation while pursuing his presidential interests.

So far, condemnations have trailed Emefiele’s involvement in politics, with experts saying it could jeopardize the integrity of the country’s financial system.
