CAC targets 100,000 firms for deregistration

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has begun the process of removing 100,000 companies from its register over failure to file annual returns and other statutory documents.

The Commission announced the exercise, tagged Batch 6, in a public notice issued on Wednesday, stating that the action is in line with Section 692 (3) and (4) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), 2020.

According to the notice, the names of the affected companies have been published on the Commission’s official website for public access.

CAC directed the defaulting firms to regularise their records, including filing outstanding annual returns and Persons with Significant Control (PSC) or Beneficial Ownership information, within 90 days.

The Commission also instructed affected companies to send evidence of compliance to its designated email address, struckoffcompanies@cac.gov.ng, within the stipulated period.

It warned that companies which fail to comply before the deadline would be struck off the register without any further notice.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to delivering prompt and efficient services while urging all affected companies to take immediate steps to avoid deregistration.
