The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, has said Nigerians cannot place their trust in opposition parties due to persistent internal crises that, according to him, reflect a lack of preparedness for governance.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda argued that political parties struggling with internal disputes lack the capacity to manage national leadership. He stated that any platform unable to organise itself effectively cannot be expected to govern a complex country like Nigeria.
Yilwatda described the APC as a stable and tested political platform with the structure, reach, and experience required to address the country’s challenges. He said the ruling party remains committed to strengthening governance, deepening democratic values, and rebuilding public trust.
He acknowledged that governance involves difficult decisions but maintained that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focused on reforms aimed at achieving long-term stability and economic growth. According to him, the current leadership carries a significant responsibility in nation-building that requires patience and political will.
On electoral processes, Yilwatda emphasised that the APC believes in securing mandates through voter support rather than legal technicalities. He noted that victories are more legitimate when earned through performance, engagement, and public confidence.
Addressing security, he pointed to the ongoing mass trials of terrorism suspects as evidence of the government’s commitment to tackling insecurity through lawful and institutional means. He said the approach combines military efforts, intelligence coordination, and judicial processes.
Yilwatda also highlighted Osun State as a key political battleground ahead of the 2027 elections, urging party members to remain united and disciplined. He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to policies that promote security, economic recovery, and national development.
