Nigeria’s electricity generation reached a new peak of 5,330 megawatts during August and September, the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has said.
Tegbe disclosed this in Abuja while presenting his 100-day scorecard, noting that transmission had also exceeded 5,000MW in recent weeks.
He said operational records showed that generation and transmission had remained above 5,000MW over the past few weeks, compared with the 3,700MW to 4,700MW range recorded before June.
According to the minister, the latest generation peak of 5,330MW represented an improvement in the performance of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
Tegbe, however, said the ministry’s priority was to ensure that the gains recorded in generation and transmission translated into more reliable electricity supply for consumers.
He acknowledged that national generation figures alone did not fully reflect the electricity experience of communities across the country, stressing the need to improve supply at the customer level.
The minister said sustaining the recent gains and delivering more dependable electricity to customers would be the ministry’s next major task.
