The Lagos State Government has pledged support for the premiere of Black Market, scheduled for September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island.
The commitment followed a meeting between the film’s production team and the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, on August 27. The team was led by Producer Nora Awolowo, Co-Producer and Executive Producer Omowunmi Dada, and Event Producer Damilola Osikoya.
Organisers expect about 50,000 people to attend the premiere, which they hope will set a Guinness World Records record for the largest audience at a movie screening.
Benson-Awoyinka assured the organisers of the state’s backing, saying the project supports Lagos’ efforts to develop young creative talent, attract visitors and strengthen the state’s position as a destination for tourism, arts, culture and entertainment.
She said the initiative aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, particularly its focus on innovation and youth empowerment. She urged the organisers to meet international standards and work with relevant government agencies to obtain the necessary approvals.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing Lagos’ creative sector. She joined the commissioner in backing initiatives capable of promoting the state’s growing entertainment industry.
The Black Market premiere is expected to bring together filmmakers, actors and other industry stakeholders for a major celebration of Nigerian cinema, while organisers pursue the ambitious Guinness World Records attempt.
