A gas-laden tanker caught fire early Thursday morning at Ola Farm Bus Stop along Abaranje Road in Ikotun, Lagos, but emergency responders quickly contained the blaze, preventing casualties.
According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the tanker was travelling at high speed when it hit a road bump, causing the driver to lose control. A tyre burst triggered the fire.
LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings and vehicles.
Officials of LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police also managed traffic and secured the area.
No deaths or injuries were recorded, while efforts are ongoing to remove the burnt tanker and restore normal traffic flow.
LASEMA urged motorists to obey speed limits, particularly around speed bumps and residential areas, and encouraged residents to report emergencies through the state’s toll-free lines, 112 and 767.
