Gunmen abduct Oyo headmaster, demand ₦30m ransom

Gunmen have abducted 60-year-old headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, Kolawale Mathew Owoade, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening as Owoade, popularly known as Onaiye, was returning from his farm in Budo Aare.

His son, Abiola Owoade, said the kidnappers contacted the family shortly after the abduction using the victim’s phone and demanded a ₦30 million ransom.

A search party later recovered the victim’s abandoned motorcycle in a nearby bush on Sunday morning.

The family has appealed to the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, NSCDC, Amotekun, hunters, vigilantes and other security agencies to secure his release.

The abduction comes days after security agencies rescued more than 40 pupils and teachers kidnapped in Oriire Local Government after spending 56 days in captivity.

Oyo Police spokesperson, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident, describing the victim as a farmer, and said efforts were ongoing to rescue him unharmed and arrest those responsible.
