APC Revises Timetable, Targets Smooth 2027 Primaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has adjusted its timetable for the conduct of primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, aiming to ensure a peaceful and coordinated process across all levels.

The decision followed consultations between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors elected on the party’s platform at the State House, Abuja.

Party officials confirmed that sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms will begin tomorrow and end on May 2, while submission closes on May 4.

The APC also announced that its electronic membership register has been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in compliance with electoral requirements.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, said the adjustments were made to ensure compliance with the Constitution and the Electoral Act, adding that primaries will now run in stages, with the presidential primary scheduled for May 23.

He noted that the party will adopt either direct or consensus primaries, depending on agreements reached among aspirants, while governors will oversee the process in their respective states.

President Tinubu and APC governors agreed on the need for rancour-free primaries and pledged to strengthen internal party unity ahead of the elections.

The party also reaffirmed its readiness for the exercise following a series of internal consultations and timetable revisions.
