President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of appointments across key education agencies in a move aimed at strengthening institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.
The appointments include new leadership for the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi will continue as Registrar.
Similarly, Prof. Babatunde Salako has been named Chairman of the NBTE, with Prof. Idris Bugaje earlier reappointed as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.
In the polytechnic sector, President Tinubu appointed Dr. Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State for a single term of five years. He succeeds Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026.
Binfa previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and has also lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
The President also renewed the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.
Anunobi, first appointed in 2021, has overseen several reforms, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The presidency noted that the appointments are expected to drive continuity, strengthen governance, and support ongoing reforms within the education sector.
