The Lagos State Government has mobilised 500 additional personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to strategic routes and major corridors ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit. The deployment aims to ensure smooth traffic flow, enhanced security, and minimal disruption to residents and commuters across the city.
Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, disclosed the move during a press briefing on Monday. He noted that the deployment forms part of a broader, coordinated arrangement involving both federal and state agencies to guarantee seamless logistics and effective movement during the President’s itinerary.
“Security, logistics, and traffic management plans are being carefully coordinated to minimise disruption to daily activities while ensuring the safety and comfort of all participants,” Omotoso said. He emphasised that the government is committed to maintaining order while showcasing the city’s readiness to host high-profile visitors.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, confirmed that the additional officers would be stationed across major highways, intersections, and routes linked to the President’s engagements. The personnel will actively manage vehicular movement, prevent congestion, and respond to any traffic incidents throughout the duration of the visit.
The deployment is part of a wider inter-agency traffic management framework that includes collaboration with the Lagos State Police Command, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and other security agencies. This partnership is aimed at ensuring public safety, efficient traffic control, and smooth operations at event venues and along transit corridors.
Also present at the briefing were the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya; Special Advisers on Works and Infrastructure, Adekunle Olayinka and Femi Daramola; as well as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile. Officials assured Lagos residents that contingency plans are in place to mitigate any inconvenience during the presidential visit.
The government has urged motorists, commuters, and residents to adhere to traffic directives and cooperate with officers to ensure a safe and efficient experience. Authorities also encouraged early travel and the use of alternate routes where necessary, stressing that the measures are temporary but essential for a smooth visit and the safety of all involved.
