Plateau killings politically motivated, aimed at weakening Tinubu – APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Saleh Zazzaga, has alleged that the recent killings in Plateau State are politically motivated and aimed at undermining President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

Zazzaga, who also chairs the North-Central APC Forum, made the claim while reacting to the recent wave of violence in Plateau and neighbouring Benue State.

His comments follow heightened tension after more than 20 people were killed in a Palm Sunday attack in Gariya Waye, Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area.

According to him, the attacks were orchestrated by opposition elements seeking to weaken the ruling party’s electoral strength and discredit Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
He claimed the violence was designed to create the impression that the current administration is underperforming, while also reducing voter turnout in areas perceived to support the President.
Zazzaga further alleged that the North-Central region has become a target due to its growing political importance, especially following recent alignments that favour the APC.
He also cautioned religious leaders against making statements that could inflame tensions, urging them to promote peace and responsible communication.
The APC chieftain called on security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity across Plateau, Benue, and other affected areas, while commending the President for visiting victims of the attack and directing action against the perpetrators.
