Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has begun steps to reconstitute the state executive council, about three weeks after dissolving the previous cabinet amid the lingering political crisis in the state.
Fubara had on February 12 announced the dissolution of the remaining members of his cabinet, shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu brokered a fresh peace deal aimed at resolving the protracted political tensions in Rivers.
Following consultations and political negotiations, the governor appointed a new Chief of Staff, Sunny Ewule, and a new Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo Wokoma, on February 26.
In the latest move, Fubara transmitted a first batch of nine commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation. The list includes Datonye Alasia, Temple Nwafor, Tonye Bellgam, Dr Peters Nwagor, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Lekue Kenneth, Otonye TKD Amachree and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.
The House of Assembly has invited the nominees to appear for screening and confirmation as commissioners and members of the state executive council.
In a statement signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr Emeka Amadi, the nominees were directed to submit 40 copies of their curriculum vitae, along with photocopies of their credentials and evidence of tax compliance.
They were instructed to forward all required documents to the Office of the Clerk at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters ahead of the screening process.
