2023 elections: Umahi declares ambition to contest for presidency

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi has joined the fast-growing list of aspirants ahead of next year’s presidential election.

Umahi said he would be seeking the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He informed reporters at the State House, Abuja, after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari to inform him of his ambition.

On Monday, January 10, APC stalwart, Bola Tinubu, joined the ring.

Umahi is the first governor to declare an interest.

Last week, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, sought the support of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

Recall that Umahi had defected to the APC from the PDP almost 14 months ago, citing what he described as the opposition party’s unwillingness to cede the presidential ticket to the Southeast.

While speaking on his chances of clinching the APC slot, Umahi went biblical: “The Bible that I swore with, a section of it in 1 Samuel, says that by strength shall no man prevail, and power and might belong to God. He chooses whomever he will and he will do that in 2023. I’m not in a contest with anybody I’m in a contest with myself”, he replied.
