The Lagos State Government has begun an investigation into the collapse of a four-storey building that housed a private school and residential apartments in the Aguda area of Ogba.
The Lagos State Building Control Agency confirmed that the structure, located on Adu Street, collapsed on Monday, raising concerns among residents in the neighbourhood.
According to the agency, no fatalities were recorded because students, staff and other occupants had evacuated the building before it caved in.
Officials of the agency, alongside emergency responders including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, visited the site shortly after the incident to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
Authorities also directed occupants of nearby buildings to vacate their premises temporarily while safety assessments are carried out on surrounding structures to determine their structural stability.
LASBCA noted that preliminary observations suggested that building activities had been ongoing at the property before the collapse, although a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Reports indicated that the building developed visible cracks shortly before the incident, prompting teachers to quickly evacuate students from the school located within the structure.
Some students reportedly sustained minor injuries during the evacuation and were taken to hospital, while emergency officials sealed nearby buildings sharing the same premises pending further safety checks.
