Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has pledged to build on the achievements of previous administrations while addressing persistent development challenges if elected governor in 2027. His campaign is positioning continuity with President Bola Tinubu’s political legacy as a key part of his agenda.
The Director-General of the Tinubu-Hamzat Campaign Council, Musiliu Obanikoro, announced on Sunday that Hamzat would unveil his manifesto on Friday, October 30. The event is scheduled to hold at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, from 3pm to 5pm.
Obanikoro said Lagos had recorded progress under Tinubu, Babatunde Fashola, Akinwunmi Ambode and incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, particularly in infrastructure, transportation, education, healthcare, urban development and economic growth. He added that Hamzat intended to preserve successful policies while improving areas where existing approaches had fallen short.
He identified transportation, housing, infrastructure, security, healthcare and environmental management as major challenges facing the state, whose population he estimated at 25 million. However, he did not provide specific targets for tackling the problems, saying the manifesto would outline Hamzat’s proposed solutions and plans for measuring progress.
The campaign director-general highlighted Hamzat’s academic and professional background, including his PhD in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University in England at age 28. He also cited his experience with financial institutions in the United States, service as a commissioner in Lagos and tenure as deputy governor under Sanwo-Olu.
Obanikoro pointed to projects such as the Blue and Red rail lines, road and bridge construction, improvements to schools and hospitals, housing developments and support for businesses and young people as examples of progress under the current administration. He said Hamzat would use his government experience to build on those achievements while addressing outstanding needs.
He added that the campaign had consulted religious and traditional leaders, traders, young people, professionals, artisans and community representatives to gather their views for the manifesto. The unveiling will be broadcast on several television stations and online platforms, while the document will be available for download afterwards to allow residents to examine its proposals and submit feedback.
