Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has alleged that the state is under siege ahead of the August 15 governorship election, accusing the police of compromising their neutrality and failing to protect innocent citizens.
Speaking during a church service at Winners Chapel in Osogbo, the governor claimed that politically motivated violence had escalated in the state, resulting in the loss of lives.
Adeleke alleged that some political actors were using the name of President Bola Tinubu to intimidate opponents and perpetrate violence ahead of the election.
He also mentioned former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and some political figures, accusing them of being linked to the violence, although he did not provide evidence to support the claims.
The governor stressed that democracy gives citizens the sole responsibility of choosing their leaders through the ballot box and warned against any attempt to manipulate the electoral process through intimidation.
Adeleke expressed confidence in the outcome of the election, saying he believes he has God’s favour and that the will of the people would prevail.
He urged his supporters to remain peaceful and avoid retaliation despite what he described as repeated provocations from political opponents.
The governor concluded by encouraging residents to participate in the election peacefully, assuring them that patience, wisdom and lawful civic engagement would ultimately lead to victory.
