Blue Line expands to 94 daily train trips

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has announced an expansion of services on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line, increasing daily train operations from 90 to 94 trips and introducing an earlier start time for weekday and Saturday services.

The development was disclosed in a statement shared by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who said the revised timetable would take effect from June 15, 2026. According to LAMATA, trains will now commence operations at 6:00 a.m., instead of the previous 6:30 a.m., to improve passenger convenience and reduce waiting times.

The authority explained that the schedule adjustment was designed to accommodate the growing number of commuters using the rail corridor while enabling passengers to begin their journeys before peak-hour road traffic builds up across the city.

Under the new arrangement, weekday and Saturday services will start 30 minutes earlier while maintaining the existing closing time of 9:30 p.m. LAMATA noted that the increase in daily trips is expected to ease congestion at stations and improve overall travel efficiency for passengers.

The authority also announced improvements to Sunday operations, increasing train trips from 22 to 24. It added that trains would operate at consistent 30-minute intervals throughout the day, providing greater predictability and convenience for commuters.

According to LAMATA, the latest service enhancement reflects the increasing popularity of the Blue Line since commercial passenger operations began on September 4, 2023. The agency said the rail system has become a critical component of Lagos’ urban transportation network.
LAMATA revealed that the Blue Line has transported more than six million passengers since its launch, highlighting its growing role in reducing travel time and improving mobility across the state. The authority added that the expansion aligns with the Lagos State Government’s efforts to strengthen mass transit infrastructure and provide residents with more reliable transportation options.
