The Itsekiri nation has endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during an event held at the palace of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, where Governor Oborevwori was also conferred with the Royal Order of Iwere (ROI).
Oborevwori described the endorsement as unprecedented, noting that the palace traditionally stays away from partisan politics.
He thanked the Itsekiri nation for what he described as an overwhelming show of support and pledged to continue implementing development projects across Iwereland.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Warri through infrastructure projects, citing the completion of a 21-kilometre road project with 15 bridges and ongoing rehabilitation of failed road sections in the area.
He also announced the award of the Ode-Itsekiri electrification project to an Itsekiri contractor to promote accountability and community ownership.
The Olu of Warri commended the governor’s leadership and offered prayers for wisdom and discernment in governing the state.
Chairman of the planning committee, Dr Alex Ideh, said the gathering represented a reflection on leadership and development, while also praising President Tinubu’s reforms and appointments involving Itsekiri sons and daughters.
Ideh subsequently moved the motion endorsing Tinubu and Oborevwori for second terms, which was seconded and adopted through a voice vote by attendees.
The event also featured cultural performances and was attended by top government officials, political leaders, and traditional rulers from across Delta State.
