The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an investigation following reports that civilians were killed during an airstrike targeting террорист positions in the North-East.
The strike, carried out by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, reportedly hit a busy border market in the Jilli axis, raising concerns about civilian casualties.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, confirmed the operation but did not provide casualty figures. He said the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has ordered a full probe into the incident.
According to the Air Force, the operation involved precision follow-up strikes on identified террорист locations on April 11. However, local reports indicated that the bombardment may have affected a market frequented by traders in the border community.
Residents said several injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
In response, the Air Force said it has activated its Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell to carry out a fact-finding mission and determine the extent of any civilian impact.
NAF emphasised that protecting civilian lives remains a priority in its operations and pledged to work with relevant authorities and community leaders to establish the facts.
The military also urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation is ongoing, reiterating its commitment to accountability and transparency.
