Presidency dismisses claim of poisoning plot against Tinubu as fake

The Presidency has debunked a viral report alleging that a kitchen staff member at the State House was arrested over a purported attempt to poison President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the claim as entirely false.

In a post on his verified X account, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that no such incident occurred and urged Nigerians to disregard the circulating video and accompanying reports.

“There was no arrest of any Aso Rock kitchen staff and no attempt to poison President Tinubu,” Onanuga said, labelling the story as fake news.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Tope Ajayi, also dismissed the allegation when contacted, describing it simply as untrue.

The rumour had spread across several online platforms, claiming that an unnamed chef attached to the Presidential Villa in Abuja had been apprehended in connection with an alleged poisoning plot. However, the reports failed to provide verifiable details or cite credible sources.

No security agency has indicated that any arrest, investigation or breach related to the allegation took place. The Presidency’s swift response sought to quell speculation and reassure the public.

Government officials have repeatedly warned against the circulation of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic and eroding confidence in public institutions.
