LP governorship candidate defects to APC

Kano state governorship candidate under the umbrella of the Labour Party (LP), Bashir Ishaq Bashir, has formally resigned from the party and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bashir at the weekend withdrew support from Peter Obi who is the LP presidential candidate and proclaimed total support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He made his decision known during a press briefing at Horizon Hotel, Kano, where he also stated reasons why he led other LP chieftains to boycott the LP presidential rally held at the Kano Pillars stadium, Sabon Gari area of Kano on January 22.

Bashir said: “We shall return to the fold of the APC, and I wish to inform you that we have just finished our Steering Committee meeting where the feedback from our constituencies was deliberated upon.

“The following decisions were made: As a coalition of Labour Party (LP) Gubernatorial, Senatorial, and House of Representatives, House of Assembly Candidates, Chairman and Members of the Presidential Campaign Council, Members of the Governorship Campaign Council, and Zonal and State Coordinators, we have decided to endorse the candidature of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We have also resolved to leverage our existing political structures to work on the mass mobilization of voters and swinging of votes to ensure his (Tinubu’s) emergence as the president of Nigeria.

“We shall be known as Game Changers for Asiwaju/Shettima 2023. Our slogan is “Sabon Lale”…Swinging the Votes. We shall return to the fold of the APC.”

When asked why he dumped the LP for APC, Bashir said that neither he nor any of his colleagues and associates were consulted on important decisions in the Labour Party.
