BEYOND SPORT - Tony Blair, Desmond Tutu, Segun Odegbami and Others Gather
Nigeria’s Segun Odegbami was recently recognized on world stage along with other prominent sports personalities for his contributions to sports development. The event was the 2009 edition of the Beyond Sport Award ceremony that featured influential international figures such as former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair; Archbishop Desmond Tutu; Prince Faisal Al Hussein of Jordan; the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and the UN’s Special Advisor to the Secretary-General, Wilfred Lemke.
Beyond Sport is a global initiative that is aimed at identifying and celebrating outstanding grassroots sports projects, as well as honouring their initiators. The initiative holds a regular Summit at which selected grassroots sports innovators are honoured. Segun Odegbami, an ex-national team footballer, was nominated among several other personalities for his effort at The International (Sports) Academy (TIA).
TIA is a catch-them-young sports development project that focuses on senior secondary school boys and girls that possess exceptional talent in sports and art.
